Zoom Bonding
Trying to get a team to bond via zoom during a pandemic is no easy task
You eventually run out of trivia questions, would you rathers, and team announcements? Also lets be honest, team zoom calls are usually boring and you get little participation. It’s so easy for people to hide behind their computer and multitask instead of really trying to participate. I lead the team zoom meetings at my company, and sometimes I’m even bored!
One day, during one of my zoom calls, I noticed my body was lining up with someone elses - almost like we were creating a whole new body. It got me thinking about that game in Mario where you line up the mushroom, star, and flower. From there, I created the game “Get in Line”. (genius name, I know)
Get in Line!
In this game teammates are divided into breakout rooms where their objective is to create a single cohesive image using their body parts.
The leader of the meeting will divide the team into breakout rooms of 3 people. In the breakout rooms - the 3 individual bodies will become one! The objective is to create a single cohesive image using your body parts.
You’ll probably be a little off at first
But somehow you’ll align
How to Play
Before the meeting, the meeting leader should
create a slack channel for this game
Create a list of the 3 individuals in each team
I prefer to do this manually as it allows me to place people together that I know haven’t had a chance to connect often
You can also have zoom assign teams at random
Let the Game Begin!
Meeting leader assigns all team members into breakout rooms. Breakout rooms should consist of 3 individuals
If this is your first time playing this game, I’d give everyone 5 - 7 minutes in the breakout room. This gives enough time for the kinks to be worked out and the idea’s to flow
Once in the breakout room, the three individuals will come up with an idea of how to link their body parts to make a cohesive image
Team members execute the idea and 1 of the 3 players will take a screenshot of everyone in their pose. * this player will need to be close enough to the computer to take a screenshot
Each team will review their screenshots and decide on a single image they want to submit
After 5 minutes the meeting leader brings everyone back together
Each team submits their 1 screenshot to the slack thread
Once each team has submitted their screenshot, all team members (including the meeting leader) vote by using an emoji on the screenshot they think is the most creative! You can vote for your own screenshot or someone else's. The team with the most emoji’s wins!
Hint : You can rearrange your zoom boxes by just dragging. That makes it easier for whoever is taking the screenshot
** clearly some photoshop magic
